FUTURE PERFECT THINKING

Future Perfect Thinking is an alternative model of strategic planning that asks decision makers to shift their thinking to the future perfect tense by picking a fixed date at some point in the future, then working back from that point mentally to find how they arrived there. Previous research suggests this model of strategic thinking has significant impact: when people take an event and place it in the past, they describe it more richly and concretely than when they look forward to the same event.

IDA uses Future Perfect Planning techniques to help decision makers create strategic plans. These techniques have a proven success record at both state and corporate levels.
